BELLY DANCE BARRE TRAINING METHOD!
Do I need a barre for the training?
No. A sturdy chair approximately hip height will work nicely as an at home option.
Do I need to know how to belly dance to teach this format?
No. While many professional belly dancers and dancers of all genres enjoy taking this training to support their dance classes and as an offering for their dance students, this method is successfully taught as a group fitness offering in fitness studios as well as virtually. Our method teaches both: how to stay true to fundamental belly dance techniques as a modern day wellness solution and barre fitness as a low impact results based program designed to condition and tone the entire body from top to toe. Each instructor has the option to "dial up or dial down" the varying belly dance progressions depending on their target audience. Barre fitness is great for the body as is belly dance, and the two together create a wonderful opportunity to keep our students dancer fit and flexible! If you are new to belly dance, our step by step instructions will equip you beautifully. In addition, we have provided a small choreography challenge (with more advanced layering options for trained dancers) to help you piece together the how and the why to this method! We hope new dancers will learn to love belly dance as much as we do and for trained dancers, we hope you feel proud of this method as a reflection of our dedication to our dance training at the barre!
Do I need to be a Certified Group Fitness Instructor to teach? Not necessarily. While there are many benefits to being a Certified Group Fitness Instructor, many professional dancers and dance studio owners who are also trained in kinesiology and movement based sciences do very well teaching this method. Our job is to equip you to teach a safe & effective class with authentic RAQISA® belly dance technique. Passing our teaching test is a crucial part to our training to ensure all are set up for success!
Are there additional fees?
A RAQ THE BARRE® class presented with the same integrity we have put into this method is important to us. This is why we have included a post testing option in effort to be officially "certified." Our course ensures that you are fully supported to prepare for this testing. Once you have earned a PASS, a low one time set up fee provides an opportunity for you to use our logo and brand your class as a RAQ THE BARRE® offering and access to continued online learning! The only way to grow as instructor is to keep working with us and this low one time fee provides additional support.
How long do I have access to the training once I have completed my learning and how long until I need to test? You will have 7 days to complete the online learning with our self guided course and 1 month to submit your testing after you have completed the training. Most can finish the video modules within 3 days. Providing 7 days access will give you ample time to learn the material. Keeping your instructor's manual as a resource and taking additional online classes is the best way to grow. The 30 Day Guided training provides more support and opportunities to prepare you to teach - but they too have 30 days to submit their teaching.
What is the difference between the 7 day self guided course and the 30 day Guided Training? The 7 day self guided training does not include free online classes (and their recordings) and frequent access to Soraya for support and feedback. The online classes include additional time with Soraya to boost your training and to provide a comprehensive experience. In addition, Soraya provides tangible challenges through the 30 days. The 7 day Self Guide course is available during the interim between guided trainings.
Who is teaching this method and where? A broad spectrum of instructors with varied backgrounds! This method is well received in a live group fitness setting as well as virtually, when presented with the same integrity our program prepares its instructors. It is also being taught by professional dancers who desire to provide a dance conditioning program for their students. Barre studio professionals also teach this method as an additional offering, which their students are loving! Many participants love the way their bodies feel after each class. The RaqiSa® essential hip layers and the continuous focus on posture provides a much needed release to our forward flexion lifestyle!
I'm not in the best shape myself and I am not sure I can do the exercises... let alone teach a class! Does that exclude me? Absolutely not! A strong instructor is able to cue for safety and set up, regardless of their own ability to demonstrate. Our goal is to teach you how to teach and to trust that in time, your own fitness will improve. We provide variables and our goal is to help you build confidence in your abilites!

Soraya is the owner and creator of RAQISA® and the RAQ THE BARRE® program. She brings over 21 years of experience in the fitness industry and a lifetime as a trained belly dancer. In addition to her fitness experience, Soraya drew from her Lebanese American roots, her award winning belly dance style, and her professional (musical) theatrical career to create RAQISA® as an empowering wellness brand providing education and elevation! Soraya is ACE, AFAA, AEA certified and holds a BA from San Jose State University and an MA from San Francisco State University in the Theatre Arts and is SAG Member.
Siri is a 16-year fitness industry veteran and a seasoned international presenter and educator. Besides being a Master Trainer for RAQ THE BARRE®, she is a Content Innovator for Cardio Yoga® and an experienced teacher of numerous formats including Pilates, Step, Kickboxing, and HIIT. Siri’s passion is helping people lead their healthiest, most fabulous lives inside and outside the gym, and helping her fellow fitness instructors to do the same. Outside of the fitness world, Siri is an academic researcher on behavioral science and gender equality based at Harvard University.
Elyse is an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor, professional dancer and choreographer. Elyse received her B.F.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and enjoys exploring the bodies potential in herself and her students. As Elyse began her journey in the fitness industry, she was drawn to the RAQISA method and immediately made her fitness debut as Master RAQ THE BARRE®️ Instructor in 2019. Keeping dance close to her heart, Elyse continues to dive into the world of exercise to bring fitness and artistry online and in her live
Joelle is an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor and an enthusiastic dancer, figure skater, and environmental anthropologist! Joelle has been a dancer since the age of 3, trained in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, and belly dance. Joelle finds joy in artistic movement and has a passion for sharing this with others. After being a student of RAQISA® herself, she proudly became a Master Instructor for the RAQ THE BARRE® program in 2019!
